The Impact We Have Made Together
Several years ago, we thought we would hire Peter and Philanthropy Squared for a one-off project and that would be that. But since then, Peter has become an indispensable part of our team and an extremely smart investment. We’ve found Peter’s experience, sound judgment, ideas, and contacts to be invaluable as we navigate the ever- changing fundraising landscape. Peter is professional, balanced, forward-thinking, totally dependable, and very efficient. His advice and guidance have proven repeatedly to be right on target. He’s also a really decent human being, and I think donors sense that. I’ve worked with other fundraisers in the past, and Peter is head and shoulders above any of the rest of them.
I had come to know Betsy as the Chair of our Board of Directors when I was hired as Executive Director of the Hanover Conservancy in 2010.
The property we worked together to conserve had been a conservation target for a generation, but it was not until 2020 when the possibility of success became apparent through a major gift to our organization just as the landowner indicated a willingness to participate. As a Senior Philanthropy Director at the Trust for Public Land, Betsy capably supported the Town of Hanover and the Hanover Conservancy in setting up an effective approach to fund-raising for the $2.2 million project. She advised on how best to pursue the campaign and educated those of us who are not philanthropy professionals in how to create portfolios of potential donors, how best to approach each, and how to craft a more general public appeal. She researched capacity and found grant sources. She was clear and direct in her communications. She helped create a sense of partnership with our fundraising committee and responsibility without which the project surely would have failed.
